btw to brief about SASSA is more on 2 major: 1st= BioTechnology and 2nd = Food and Nutrition.

those who major in BioTechnology is main based on research and developement in major things. Examples are Medicine, Plants, Animals, and Many More. if u wan to know more bout this, do ask me bout this topic?


Those who major in FOOD and NUTRITION is mainly based on Research in FOOD AND NUTRIENT. they mostly are given a spesific thing to research on. example like the combination of 2 fruits.(Dragon Fruit and Mango). they have to find how much the ingredient of the drink o fruit if they mix wid it. and have to find out what is in the mixture? example: percentage of vitamin, minerals and other materials in it.

Hmm... Actually iam not so sure about this...
But recently in UCSI there is a charity food fair organized by The Student Council of School of Applied Science and it was participated by Food Sciece student...
Some lecturer even took this opportunity to let students do their assignment...
This is what i heard from my tutor...
From my personel view i think that Food Science involved with food and drinks inventing...

Actually it is not that hard but it is also not very easy...
If you want to take this course i will suggest you must have a pretty good backgroug in chemistry and biology...
Because troughout the course you will have to know a lot of chemical in order to do food test and a lot more...
Quite interesting course...

Actually i didn't like this course becouse i don't like chemistry...
Hehehe...
but...
I am pretty sure the school won't let the students to do any experiments mixing highly reactive reagen...
They also don't want the school lab have smoke caming out or the school acedemic block became half, such as the "BOOM!!!" incident...
Hahaha...
Furthurmore, it is foodscience and biotech...
Not nuclear making or research where you'll mix uranium together...

Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Food Science & Nutrition




Food science and Nutrition is the integrated study of food chemistry, food microbiology for quality control, human nutrition, food engineering, processing and preservation. It involves an understanding of how diets and nutrition affect the health of individuals, technologies for creating new food products, and making current products more stable, nutritious, convenient, reliable and safe.

The Bachelor of Science in Food Science & Nutrition is designed to provide students with practical "hands-on" experience through a comprehensive and practical curriculum of cutting edge research and studies in food science and nutrition.



Food Science begins with an understanding of the plants and animals that will become food, and ends with an understanding of why people choose to eat the foods they eat. It is a challenging programme that requires strengths in chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology.

Students have access to a variety of laboratory equipment here at UCSI, under the direction and guidance of qualified professors and academicians, as well as experienced lab technologists.

Biotechnology is the fastest growing science-based industry in the world. It is widely regarded now as the new engine of growth for the global economy. Biotechnology covers the health care industry, agricultural and industrial sectors, environment, and forensics. It encompasses the applications of technologies i.e. molecular biology, genetic engineering, bioinformatics and biochemistry for development of new vaccines, novel drugs for cancer and life-threatening diseases like AIDS, medical diagnostic kits, agricultural products with improved nutritional values and reduced dependence on chemical pesticides, improved industrial products, cleaner processes with less waste, efficient cleaning of hazardous wastes, and DNA fingerprinting for improved criminal investigation.

The 3-year programme is designed with the aid of leading members of biotechnology field to bridge the gap between the industry and academia.



The subjects offered are aimed at providing the students with a good foundation and knowledge of the different fields of biotechnology for their future career. The technical expertise in biotechnology is applicable globally. A biotechnology graduate can readily adapt their expertise to careers as management or quality control personnel in production of pharmaceutical and other industrial products, in research institutions as R&D scientists, in agriculture, in clinical laboratories, bioinformatics and as forensic scientists. There are also other career opportunities in Intellectual Property (IP) and patent law, in sale and supporting services of the biotechnology industry, in ecology and environmental pollution control and waste management, as venture capitalists and as biotechnology technopreneurs.

If you don't want to enter these sunject using STPM, you can also take the Foundation in Science using SPM results...
